“Are you considering becoming a creative person?

Too late, you already are one,”

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Big Magic

ABOUT WENDY

Teaching is a reciprocal relationship, as I teach I learn from my students. Teaching art to approximately 500 wonderful sixth graders is an exploratory process. It’s great to have a plan but you need to stay flexible and connected to your intuition. My mixed-media artworks combine photography and printmaking with drawing and painting from direct observation. Themes in my work include time, space, color, and pattern.

I stay motivated by connecting with the beauty of everyday life. Networking with artists and teachers online and in person is a never-ending source of inspiration. Oh, and setting a timer in the studio is an excellent strategy!

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Montclair State University and a master’s degree in K-6 Elementary Education from Antioch University. I am really, really good at packing, moving, and organizing a new home and studio environment. In my childhood and adult life, I’ve relocated many times, mostly around the East Coast and New Jersey specifically. I love living in the greater New York area. As a teaching artist with a regular studio practice, I could not have found a better home base than Verona, NJ.
